Whats On Your Plate?
Why Quiet Time,
Now, less than three months away from the birth of our first child, I’m contemplating how busy and hectic life is about to get. As if I didn’t already feel that I lacked enough time to get what I needed done, done in the first place, God inconsiderably adds a new person and responsibility into the mix. He couldn’t even wait for me to get into a rhythm.
As more things and responsibilities compete for my thoughts, and my time, I find it increasingly harder to remain faithful to my quiet time, in the word, in prayer and hearing from God. Sometimes it seems that God is more gracious than man and will understand if I didn’t get my quiet time in, also the quiet time seem less urgent.
It goes back to the old, phrase ‘my plate is too full’, however I’m learning that it is real easy to make a plate full of different things, but when it gets down to it, to have the right dish it’s about having the right thing on it, not many different things.
Quiet times are for my protection also. As I guard it, understanding that the main entrée on my dish is my relationship with God, it keeps me from adding unnecessary busy work to my life.
I encourage each of you to get back and/or stick to this basic practice of the Christian life of spending time with God in the word, in prayer and hearing from him.
Love you all
